Gujarat : Parents, NSUI, and VHP Protest After Ahmedabad School Stabbing Incident

Ahmedabad | Gujarat — The protest and demonstration against the murder of the 10th standard student by an 8th standard student at the Seventh Day Adventist school in Ahmedabad continued on the second consecutive day on Thursday. While the Youth Congress and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) locked the gates of the Seventh Day Adventist School, shops and business establishments remained shut in Maninagar, Ahmedabad  following the bandh call given by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Thursday. 

The Ahmedabad police have beefed up security in the 500 meters radius of the Seventh Day Adventist school to curb untoward incidents on Thursday. The announcement of the bandh by the VHP received a lukewarm response, with many shops remaining open. However, the Sindhi market in Maninagar and more than 200 schools in Maninagar, Khokhara and Isanpur area declared holiday on Thursday. 

Khokhara police have registered a complaint against a mob of more than 500 people in connection with the violence and vandalism that took place at the Seventh Day School in Ahmedabad yesterday after the murder of a student. The administrator of Seventh Day Adventist school Mayurika Patel has registered this complaint. The complaint mentions that the mob came to the school and broke the windows of the office, classroom, school bus, LCD, and computer, causing a loss of Rs 15 lakh. The mob also fought with the staff in the school. The mob vandalized in the presence of the police. Khokhara police have registered a case under sections like rioting, violence, and causing damage.

During the announcement of the bandh, the situation at the Seventh Day School again deteriorated around 12 noon on Thursday. There was a clash with the police. The police also went to the residential area and lathicharged. On the other hand, Sindhi leaders who reached the school were also detained when they tried to talk to the media.

I Division ACP Krunal Desai said that all those protesting outside the school have been detained. Complaints have been filed against 500 people for vandalism in the school. No one has been arrested yet.

Ahmedabad’s schools are no longer temples of Saraswati but battlefields. City schools are sometimes seen in controversy due to the behavior of teachers and sometimes due to the business of the school. 

The parents demanded that strict action should be taken against the school. The safety of the students is being threatened in the school. The students studying in the school protested with placards. They said that there are frequent incidents of fights, fights and brawls in this school. Despite complaints being made daily, the school does not pay any attention. Despite repeated complaints, the school does not take action and only suspends people for one day. The students protested by wearing black clothes. The incident of a student studying in Standard-8 attacking a student of Standard-10 with a knife in a Seventh Day School has created a stir across the city. Meanwhile, a crowd of parents had gathered at the school as the student died during treatment. The parents created a ruckus by protesting fiercely in front of the school. In this incident, parents of the Seventh Day School along with NSUI workers and locals also joined the protest on Thursday. During this, a scuffle was seen between NSUI workers and the police. The police detained the NSUI workers.

NSUI protested with fierce slogans regarding the entire incident. Protests were held demanding the closure of the Seventh Day School to get justice for the deceased student. People surrounded the Seventh Day School. Now students have also joined the protest and have threatened to agitate until justice is not given. The protesting demonstrators said that this is great negligence of the Seventh Day School.
