Surat | Gujarat  — In a spectacular display of patriotism and unity, thousands of residents in the diamond city of Surat took part in a 2 km long ‘Tiranga Padyatra’ from Piplod’s ‘Y’ Junction to Lalbhai Contractor Cricket Stadium, led by Union Minister of Water Resources CR Paatil. The event, organized by the Department of Sports, Youth Services and Cultural Activities, Gandhinagar, along with the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), turned the city into a sea of saffron, white, and green.

The padyatra began with the resounding sound of a conch shell, symbolizing the spirit of freedom and courage. Union Minister Patil was joined by Minister of State for Home Affairs Harsh Sanghvi, Minister of State for Forest and Environment Mukesh Patel, and several dignitaries who flagged off the march. Citizens, young and old, walked shoulder to shoulder, waving the national flag and chanting patriotic slogans.

Adding to the grandeur, 250 personnel from SMC’s fire department unfurled and carried an impressive 1,200-meter-long tricolor, creating a breathtaking sight that drew cheers from onlookers.

Speaking at the event, C.R. Paatil said,“When Suratians gather in such unimaginable numbers, the spirit of patriotism comes alive. Our freedom was earned through the sacrifices of countless heroes who gave their blood for this country. Today, as we wave the flag, we must remember the martyrs and their families.”

He recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s role in the freedom struggle, emphasizing his dual commitment to both independence and cleanliness.

“Just as Gandhiji fought for freedom through Satyagraha, he also urged the nation to stay clean. Today, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we are working to build the India our forefathers envisioned,” he said.

Paatil also highlighted India’s growing strength on the global stage, citing decisive military actions against threats.

“Our enemies tried to harm India, but under the PM’s guidance, the Indian Army answered with surgical strikes, air strikes, and Operation Sindoor — showing the world our resolve,” he added.

Minister Harsh Sanghvi praised the citizens’ enthusiasm, noting that such events not only honor the past but inspire the future.

“The Tiranga Yatra is not just a march — it is a promise that we will protect and cherish the freedom our ancestors fought for,” he said.

The padyatra concluded at Lalbhai Contractor Cricket Stadium, where the tricolor fluttered proudly in the evening breeze.
