Surat, Gujarat – In a historic moment for Gujarat’s cue sports community, Surat is set to host the 4th prestigious Gujarat State Open Ranking Billiards and Snooker Tournament 2025. Starting August 1, the week-long tournament will be held at Surat City Gymkhana, behind ISKCON Mall in Piplod, and will feature over 150 top players from across the state.
Organized by Apex Sports in collaboration with the Surat District Billiards and Snooker Association (SDBSA) and the Gujarat State Billiards Association, the tournament marks a significant milestone as it shifts from Ahmedabad, which had hosted the event for the past 39 years.
“We are extremely proud to bring this prestigious event to Surat,” said Viraj Thakkar, President of SDBSA and the Tournament Coordinator. “This is not just a tournament—it’s a celebration of cue sports and a platform for emerging talents from our city to shine on the state stage.”
Speaking at a press conference, Surat City Gymkhana President Arvind Inamdar and Secretary Kishan Mehra highlighted the city’s growing role in the sports arena. “Surat is no longer just about textiles and diamonds. We are building a sporting culture, and this tournament proves it,” said Mehra.
The organizing team, which includes Vice President Yogesh Thakkar, Secretary Sarin Chevali, Treasurer Neel Desai, Joint Secretary Vishul Desai, Liaison Himanshu Patel, Coach Tushar Sahai, and Marker Jayesh Umrigar, emphasized the meticulous planning and high-level participation expected.
“The response has been overwhelming. Players and fans alike are excited to witness a tournament of this scale in Surat,” added Viraj Thakkar. “We’re committed to nurturing talent and passing on the rich legacy of cue sports to the next generation.”
