Surat, Gujarat – Have you ever heard of a ‘green police station’. If not then you have to visit the diamond city of Surat, which boasts Gujarat’s first ‘green building’ police station, built at the cost of Rs 2 crore on the public private partnership (PPP) model. The newly built eco-friendly Althan Police Station, separated from Khatodara Police Station at Althan in Surat city, has been inaugurated with the support of public participation. Carrying plastic water bottles is prohibited in this police station. Along with this, a rainwater harvesting system has also been installed along with a special restroom for the women in khaki.
This renovation of Althan Police Station depicts the fast-paced development of Surat city, commitment towards environmental protection and providing better services to the citizens. This eco-friendly initiative will also provide an inspiring example for other cities and states, which will lead to more ‘green’ and responsible governance in the future. This police station will not only solve the case of catching criminals, but will also become a living example of environmental conservation and social service.
The station is designed as a green building
The Althan Police Station has been designed as a ‘green building’ in the true sense. PI D. D. Chauhan further said that this newly constructed police station has been designed as a modern and environmentally sensitive ‘green building’. The most important feature of this building is that it is completely environment-friendly.
15 K.W. Capacity Solar Power System
The entire building is powered by a 15 K.W. capacity solar power system. This will significantly reduce electricity consumption and meet the energy conservation target. The use of solar energy will help reduce carbon emissions and have a positive impact on the environment.
Rainwater Harvesting System
A state-of-the-art facility of rainwater harvesting up to 12 feet has been set up here for water conservation and reuse. The rainwater will be purified and used for drinking, which is an excellent solution for cities facing water shortage. This will also recharge the groundwater.
‘No Plastic Zone’
This police station has been declared a ‘No Plastic Zone’. Not a single plastic water bottle will be seen inside the police station and it will not be used. People coming to the police station will be provided with water in glass bottles. This initiative will make a significant contribution in reducing plastic pollution and maintaining cleanliness.
A symbol of women empowerment and sensitivity
One of the special features of Althan Police Station is its women-sensitive design. A special restroom facility has been made available here for women, which has three beds. This restroom can be used by a woman or a female police officer when she is menstruating, or when a woman has come to the police station with a small child and wants to get fed. This facility shows the sensitivity of the police system towards the society and commitment to women’s safety, which also provides an exemplary example for other police stations.
People will no longer have to go to Khatodara
This new police station built at Althan will cover a vast area including the villages of Bhimrad, Vesu, Bharathana, Sarsana and Althan. As a result, more than two and a half lakh citizens will have better access to police and justice services, which will play a vital role in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens. Till now, people of these areas had to go to Khatodara police station for even the smallest work, but now all the facilities will be available at the local level, saving both time and energy.
Future direction: The country’s largest police station in Surat!
Apart from the current achievements, Surat city also has big plans for the future. Soon, the country’s largest and most modern police station will be built in 3000 square meters in the Sachin area of Surat. This futuristic project will further cement Surat as a leading and modern city on the map of the country. These new police stations will not only help in maintaining law and order, but will also emerge as a symbol of environmental protection and social responsibility.
