Vadodara, Gujarat – At a time when communal tensions are simmering in certain parts of the country, the cultural capital of Gujarat, Vadodara, witnessed a heartwarming celebration of communal harmony.

As the Gauri Vrat has begun, Nishita Rajput, a social worker from Vadodara city, set an example of Hindu-Muslim unity. As many as 201 girls studying in various schools in Vadodara city were gathered at Kamati Baug and given packets of dry fruits. Along with this, on the occasion of the holy festival of Gauri Vrat, 51 Muslim girls from the city’s R. &. K. Pandya School applied mehndi to 201 Hindu girls and wished them a happy celebration of the fast.

On this occasion, Nishita Rajput said, “We are very excited for this day. Everyone should live in harmony.”

Vadodara social activist Nishita Rajput said that I have been working on the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and Beti Ko Khushiya Do’ campaign for the last 17 years. However, Gauri Vrat is started from Monday, and the girls from the Hindu and Muslim community have gathered at Kamati Baug to celebrate the festival.

“ We have distributed dry fruits to the daughters. Apart from this, 51 Muslim daughters have applied mehendi to 201 Hindu daughters. For the last 17 years, Muslim girls have been coming to Kamati Baug and giving a message of communal harmony by applying mehendi to Hindu girls. There is no difference between these Hindu and Muslim daughters. Muslim girls are always curious about when Gauri Vrat will come and we will go and apply mehendi to Hindu sisters. Today, we have given a message of unity through this program. These daughters are very excited to meet them on this day” said Nishita Rajput.

Rajput further said, “I have been working on the Girls Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign for the last 17 years. So far, I have helped 51,600 girls with fees of Rs 5.92 crore. My father and I are the mediators. We work as mediators between the donor and the daughter and I will continue this work in the coming days. This year, the target is to pay fees of Rs 1 crore for 10,000 girls.”

Muslim student Nihar Katwala said, “We study in R. &. K. Pandya School. Every year Nishita Didi calls us for Gauri Vrat and we come to apply mehendi to Hindu girls. We feel very good. We all consider each other as friends and apply mehndi to Hindu girls. We all have a lot of fun here and we all have breakfast together. We should all live in harmony.

Roshni, a Hindu girl who did Gauri Vrat, said that Nishita didi helps us with the fee. She took 51 girls in a plane to Mumbai two years ago and we visited the studio where Taarak Mehta was shot. Muslim girls applied mehndi to us and this mehndi was applied very nicely. An example of Hindu and Muslim unity is being seen here. We are very excited for this day”
