Surat, Gujarat –  The GP-SMASH (Gujarat Police – Social Media Monitoring, Awareness and Systematic Handling) initiative of Gujarat police for the digital-first approach to public safety immediately responded to an emergency situation when a mother fell from a moving train, leaving her two kids alone onboard on Friday afternoon.

Tarunaben Jain, an alert passenger in the coach immediately posted on her X account at 3:15 PM on Friday tagging @GujaratPolice, stating that a woman had fallen from train number 12471 near Kudsad and Kosamba in Surat district. She requested immediate help, adding that the woman’s two children were still in coach S4.

In a display of digital responsiveness, within four minutes, at 3:19 PM, the state-level GP-SMASH team jumped into action. PSI K.O. Desai and Constable Ashokbhai Thakor, on shift duty, immediately tagged the Government Railway Police (GRP) Vadodara via @Grp_Vadodara to initiate rescue operations.

“This is what GP-SMASH was built for — quick, transparent, and tech-enabled public service,” said a senior official from the Gujarat Home Department. “The Gujarat Police today is not just a force on the ground but one that listens and acts through every digital platform.”

In response, two teams from Western Railway Vadodara were dispatched. One secured and cared for the two minor children in the train while the second began a search for the missing mother, inspecting railway tracks, nearby hospitals, and local areas.

By 3:41 PM, the @Grp_Vadodara handle responded publicly to the original post, confirming: “Both children are safe and under protection. Search for the mother is ongoing.”

The rescue has since gone viral on social media, earning praise from netizens and reinforcing public trust in Gujarat Police’s real-time monitoring system.

“Such proactive action by Gujarat Police proves that they’re only a tweet away,” said citizen journalist Vinesh Rawat, who frequently documents civic incidents. “GP-SMASH isn’t just a digital tool — it’s saving lives.”

GP-SMASH: A 24×7 Digital Shield for Citizens

Launched on March 1, 2025, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi, and DGP Vikas Sahay, GP-SMASH ensures real-time monitoring and response to posts, queries, and emergencies raised on social media—especially on X. The project is supervised by DIG Deepak Meghani (Law & Order) and operates round-the-clock, offering citizens an assurance of instant police support.

With teams spread across state, district, and unit levels, the system bridges the gap between citizen alerts and on-ground police response — proving Gujarat is leading the way in tech-driven, accountable governance.

“This isn’t just about social media—it’s about saving lives in real-time,” remarked an official from the state command center. “GP-SMASH represents a future where governance truly connects with the people.”
