Gujarat : Gira River Turns into Forest Goddess’ Necklace in Dang

Dang, Gujarat – After two days of continuous rainfall, the Dang district’s rivers, waterfalls and springs have come alive in all their monsoon glory, painting a surreal picture for nature lovers. The Gira, Ambika, Khapri and Purna rivers, fed by streams cascading from forested hills, are flowing with renewed force, and nowhere is this more beautiful than at the U-turn point near Girmal waterfall—a place now locally revered as the ‘Necklace of the Forest Goddess’ (Van Devi).

This breathtaking U-turn in the Gira river, where water curves through a dense belt of green, has become a magnet for tourists seeking refuge in nature’s artistry. Locals describe it as nature’s ornament—“a golden necklace adorning the neck of the forest goddess.”

“This is Gujarat’s own Amazon. The U-turn spot is so green, so full of life and sound. It’s like stepping into another world,” said Bhargav Patel, a Surat-based photographer visiting the area.

Eco-tourism Gets a Boost

Recognizing the site’s rising popularity, the forest department has developed the area into a sustainable eco-tourism spot. A viewpoint cottage, toilets, and a tea-snack stall now greet visitors, all maintained by the local Eco Development Committee, ensuring income for nearby tribal villages while preserving the ecosystem.

“The viewpoint near the Girmal waterfall has become one of our key eco-tourism assets. Visitors get an immersive forest experience just 70 km from Surat,” said a forest officer overseeing development in the region.

Tourists Drawn by Rain-Fed Beauty

The Girmal waterfall, the tallest in Gujarat, is already a known attraction. But this season, it’s the curving embrace of the Gira river through thick green canopies that’s stealing the spotlight.

“It reminds me of the Amazon rainforests I’ve only seen in documentaries,” said Rupal Joshi, a tourist from Ahmedabad.

With the monsoon breathing life into the Western Ghats, the Dang district is rapidly turning into Gujarat’s green gem. With its rich biodiversity, tribal culture, and eco-friendly infrastructure, it’s offering a perfect getaway for tourists hungry for nature, peace, and photographic wonder.
