iPhones, Saffron, Ganja Seized in Ahmedabad Airport Crackdown

Ahmedabad, Gujarat – The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has intercepted a series of major contraband smuggling attempts at Ahmedabad International Airport, exposing  a concerning trend in illicit activities through air travel hubs. In the latest crackdown, officials have seized a staggering 6.5 kilograms of hybrid marijuana valued at approximately Rs 6.5 crore from a passenger arriving from Bangkok, Thailand.

According to sources familiar with the operation, the DRI acted immediately  upon receiving intelligence regarding the inbound flight. Upon the aircraft’s arrival, authorities detained a female passenger during immigration clearance and conducted a meticulous search that led to the discovery of the illegal narcotics. The apprehended individual is currently under interrogation as investigators delve deeper into the network responsible for this substantial drug haul.

Simultaneously, the Customs officials intercepted another passenger arriving from Abu Dhabi, uncovering a cache of high-value items hidden among personal belongings. The search yielded a significant stash of 9,500 grams of pure saffron, alongside 15 iPhones and 4 digital watches. The combined value of these items is estimated to be substantial, prompting immediate action by law enforcement to secure the contraband and initiate further inquiries into the smuggling syndicate involved.

“These seizures point towards the challenges posed by organized crime networks utilizing air routes to smuggle narcotics and high-value goods,” remarked a senior official familiar with the operation. “Our teams remain vigilant, employing advanced surveillance techniques and intelligence gathering to prevent such illegal activities.”
