Gandhinagar, Gujarat – Gujarat is on edge as tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, prompting Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to convene a crucial meeting on Friday at the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar. The meeting, chaired by CM Patel, included top officials from various state departments, police authorities, and military representatives to assess security preparedness amidst the heightened border situation.

Security Measures and Alerts

Following the meeting, stringent security measures have been implemented across Gujarat, particularly in border villages and sensitive areas. Bhuj Airport has been handed over to the army to bolster defenses. In response to misinformation circulating on social media, four individuals have been charged for spreading rumors that undermine military morale, highlighting the state government’s zero-tolerance policy towards such acts.

Health Services Preparedness

In anticipation of potential emergencies, the Gujarat health department has taken preemptive measures. All leaves for doctors, paramedics, and health department staff have been canceled except for medical emergencies. Additionally, strict instructions have been issued to ensure adequate stocks of medicines, medical teams, and backup power supplies in hospitals statewide.

Gujarat’s Medicinal Preparedness

Jashwant Patel, President of the Gujarat Pharmacy and Druggist Association, reassured the public about medicine availability, stating that Gujarat maintains a robust three-tiered stock system. Depots hold up to four months of supply, wholesalers maintain 1.5 months, and retailers are stocked for 10 days, ensuring ample reserves even under heightened demand.

Hospital Readiness in Vadodara and Surat

Sayaji Hospital in Vadodara has activated an additional emergency ward equipped with oxygen, electricity backup, and stocked medicines to handle any surge in patient influx. Dr. Hitendra Chauhan, Resident Medical Officer (RMO), affirmed the hospital’s readiness and ongoing vigilance among staff.

Meanwhile, Surat Police have intensified patrols, particularly along Sunwali Beach, and engaged local fishermen through a dedicated WhatsApp group to report suspicious activities promptly. Surat’s medical facilities, categorized for immediate response, have secured three-month medicine stocks, surgical supplies, and backup power systems, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services.

Rajkot’s Medical Preparedness

Under the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Rajkot, 2,500 doctors across 50 private hospitals are on standby, prepared to manage any injuries or medical emergencies arising from the conflict. This readiness includes comprehensive treatment capabilities, from minor injuries to major surgeries, reducing reliance on central hospitals like those in Ahmedabad.

Strategic Coordination in War Rooms

Both Surat and Gandhinagar have established dedicated war rooms to monitor developments closely. Surat’s war room is focused on coastal security and immediate reporting of suspicious activities to local authorities, ensuring swift responses to potential threats.

Civil Hospital Preparedness in Ahmedabad

In Ahmedabad, Civil Hospital has canceled all leave for medical staff, ensuring round-the-clock availability. Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi affirmed the hospital’s preparedness to implement government directives promptly, including the deployment of emergency symbols to facilitate public access during crises.
