Gandhinagar : In the last two years, a total of 92,557 students across Gujarat have undergone training under the Student Police Cadet (SPC) program, an initiative under the Suraksha Setu Yojana. Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma, speaking on behalf of the Minister of State for Home Affairs, highlighted the significance of this program in instilling discipline, national pride, and respect for the law among school children.

According to the minister, the training aims to develop students’ physical and mental capacity while fostering a sense of responsibility towards society. In 2023, a total of 46,614 students were trained, while in 2024, 45,943 students participated in the program. Among them, 3,435 students from Amreli district completed their training over the past two years. Vishwakarma emphasized that the initiative helps children understand that education is not just for personal growth but also for serving society. The program strengthens self-confidence and discipline, which are crucial for their future endeavors.

The Student Police Cadet training goes beyond theoretical learning and actively involves students in real-life service activities. As part of their field training, student cadets have played a significant role in assisting senior citizens by visiting their homes and helping them with daily tasks. During the devastating Biparjoy cyclone, cadets from Dhasa village extended their support to affected communities, showcasing their commitment to social service.

In addition to disaster relief, student cadets have been actively engaged in spreading awareness about government welfare schemes. In Narmada and Dang districts, they have gone door to door, helping fill out widow and elderly assistance forms while educating citizens about various government benefits. Their participation in traffic management and road safety awareness programs in several cities has further demonstrated their ability to contribute to public welfare.

The program has also created new career opportunities for many young participants. Several cadets who have undergone this training have successfully been selected in the Agniveer Yojana, the military recruitment initiative introduced under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. This selection highlights the effectiveness of the training in preparing students for careers in law enforcement and defense.
