Gandhinagar : The Gujarat Government is committed to help the less fortunate and gives top priority to the effective execution of nutrition-oriented projects. Free food grains are being supplied under PMGKAY to 3.72 crore recipients from around 76.6 lakh households all throughout the state.

With 21.91 lakh metric tons of food grains granted by the state government in 2024, the value comes to ₹7, 529 crore.   Along with more than 3.30 crore people from priority households, around 36.40 lakh people under Antyodaya Anna Yojana are benefiting here.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s direction, the Central Government has started several welfare projects meant to better the lot of the underprivileged and excluded.   Introduced five years ago, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) has been quite helpful for Antyoday households.   By means of this program, the state distributed 21.91 lakh metric tons of food grains in 2024, therefore generating an estimated ₹7, 529 crore in Gujarat.

Initiated to provide disadvantaged families with free food grains within the difficulties the Corona epidemic presented, PMGKAY was   The project meant to help families in need and reduce their financial load has been extended until December 2028.   Families categorized as Antyoday and covered by the National Food Security Act-2013 (NFSA) are entitled to receive 35 kg of food grains monthly under the PMGKAY project.  Priority households also get five kg each individual every month.

The Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department has been allocated a sizeable ₹2,712 crore in the Gujarat Budget for 2025–26.   This allocation consists of ₹767 crores for the distribution of tur dal and gram to NFSA ration card holders, therefore enabling access to food high in proteins.

Along with ₹160 crores for twice-year subsidized edible oil delivery to NFSA beneficiary families, it also contains ₹675 crores for food grain supply to qualified beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act-2013.   Moreover, ₹37 crore has been set aside as an incentive bonus of ₹300 per quintal over the minimum support price to promote the farming and consumption of Shri Anna (Millets) including Bajra, Jowar, and Ragi.
