Gandhinagar : In a bid to significantly improve educational quality, Gujarat has accredited approximately 35,000 schools between 2019 and 2024 under the ambitious Gunotsav 2.0 program, also known as the school accreditation framework. Originally launched in 2009, Gunotsav has been reimagined to incorporate modern trends in education, resulting in substantial advancements in learning outcomes.

The initiative, spearheaded by Education Minister Kuber Dindor, has been lauded for its systematic approach to enhancing education quality. Gunotsav 2.0 is set to unfold in four phases this year, covering government, grant-aided, and ashram schools across primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels. The first two phases are scheduled from December 30, 2024, to January 18, 2025, with the entire program overseen by the Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training (GCERT).

Structured Framework and Comprehensive Coverage

Gunotsav 2.0’s school accreditation process evaluates institutions across four distinct areas, ensuring a holistic assessment of education quality. The program aligns with the guidelines established by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, reflecting its emphasis on accountability and outcome-based learning.

The third stage of accreditation introduces innovations such as attendance tracking, periodic and semester assessments, annual examinations, and state-level competitive tests like the Chief Minister Gyan Setu Merit Scholarship Examination (CET) and the Chief Minister Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship Examination (CGMS). This structured evaluation aims to foster a culture of excellence among students and educators alike.

Cross-Verification and Transparency

In the final stage of accreditation, a rigorous cross-verification process is conducted by school inspectors for up to 33% of the accredited schools. This ensures that the published report cards reflect a true and unbiased assessment of school performance. Such transparency enhances the credibility of the program while identifying areas for improvement.

Empowering Educators Through Digital Resources

To support principals, head teachers, and CRC coordinators, the state government has introduced online courses on the DIKSHA Portal. These resources provide timely guidance on the school accreditation framework, ensuring that educators are well-equipped to meet the program’s stringent standards. This digital initiative underscores the state’s commitment to empowering teachers and fostering a collaborative approach.
