Ahmedabad : The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested five more individuals in connection with the PM-JAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana) scandal at Khyati Multispeciality Hospital. The scam, which has shaken the healthcare sector, revolves around allegations of fraudulent practices under the government’s health scheme.

On Tuesday, the Crime Branch apprehended Rahul Jain, CEO, and Milind Patel, marketing manager of Khyati Hospital, from Udaipur. Another CEO, Chirag Rajput, was arrested in Kheda, while Pankit Patel and Pratik Bhatt were also taken into custody.

According to the police, the accused had been evading arrest by switching off their mobile phones and communicating via new devices on social media platforms. This led to an intensive manhunt that culminated in their capture.

Meanwhile, Dr. Prashant Vazirani, another key accused in the case, was sent to judicial custody on Monday after his 11-day police remand concluded. During his court appearance, the judge inquired if he had any complaints against the police, to which Dr. Vazirani responded in the negative. He was subsequently transferred to Sabarmati Jail, as the Crime Branch did not seek an extension of his remand.

Additionally, Sanjay Patoliya, a director implicated in the scandal, has filed an anticipatory bail application in the Ahmedabad Rural Court. Justice K.M. Sojitra issued a notice to the Crime Branch’s investigating officer and scheduled the next hearing for November 28.

The Khyati Multispeciality Hospital scandal came to light 13 days ago when two patients from Kadi tragically died after allegedly undergoing unnecessary angioplasty procedures. The hospital staff is accused of exploiting the PM-JAY scheme, conducting unwarranted treatments to claim financial benefits.

The PM-JAY is a flagship health insurance initiative by the government, designed to provide affordable medical care to economically weaker sections. However, the alleged misuse of the scheme has raised concerns about oversight and accountability in the healthcare system.

With the recent arrests, the Crime Branch has intensified its probe into the scam, focusing on uncovering the full extent of the fraud and identifying all individuals involved. The case highlights the critical need for stricter monitoring mechanisms in government health programs to prevent similar abuses in the future.
