Monsoon Devastation in Gujarat: 61 Dead, Thousands Evacuated

Ahmedabad : The monsoon season in Gujarat has resulted in the deaths of approximately 61 unsuspecting individuals in a variety of incidents that have been reported throughout the state. According to Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey, the state has experienced an average rainfall of 51%. Saurashtra received over 73% of the season’s rainfall, while Kutch received 75%. 

From the early morning until 4 p.m., Borsad in the Kheda district has received approximately 15 inches of rainfall. 

Alok Pandey provided additional information, stating that over 4,000 individuals have been evacuated as a result of the rain and have been relocated to a secure location. This season, the state has experienced a total of 61 fatalities as a result of the rainfall. Approximately 73 talukas have received more than 500 MM of rainfall during the monsoon season.

The dams are experiencing a significant inflow of water as a result of the state’s excessive rainfall. The Sardar Sarovar dam is currently at 54% of its maximum capacity. Out of the 206 dams in the state, approximately 46 have experienced an inundation. The relief commissioner has disclosed that 51 dams are currently on high alert. In the interim, the state is currently experiencing flood conditions on 10 rivers, and eight individuals have passed away within the past 24 hours.

The relief commissioner has been informed that electricity has been disconnected in certain regions of the state as a result of the heavy rains. He stated that there are presently 253 villages in the state without electricity, and efforts are underway to restore power. In addition, 17 state highways, 42 other roadways, and 607 panchayat-owned roads have been closed in the state as a result of the rain. The state has a total of 666 closed routes.
