SURAT, GUJARAT : An assistant director of flying squad of the Surat Mines and Minerals department and his sub-ordinate have landed in the net of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after they were caught red-handed while accepting bribe money to the tune of Rs 2 lakh from a owner of the sand mining firm in Surat on Tuesday.

Naresh Jani, assistant director of Mines and Minerals department’s flying squad in Surat and his officer Kapil Parshottam Prajapati had demanded bribe from the complainant who is operating a sand mining business in Bhata. The accused asked for money In order to prevent any disturbance or raid during the sand mining operation in Bhata area in Surat.

Since the complainant had obtained royalty permit to evacuate sand from Bhata, he was not inclined to pay any kind of bribe money to the officials. However, he contacted the ACB Surat division and lodged his complaint against the accused for demanding bribe money.

A trap was laid under the leadership of AK Chauhan, police inspector of ACB Surat division on Tuesday. Kapil Prajapati, flying squad officer came at the disclosed location to collect the bribe money worth Rs 2 lakh from the complainant. It was during this time, the accused was caught red-handed while accepting RS 2 lakh bribe  money.

ACB Police inspector AK Chauhan said, “The main accused Naresh Jani is at large and we have launched a manhunt to arrest him. Meanwhile, the accused flying squad officer is in the custody and he has accepted the crime”
