AHMEDABAD,GUJARAT : Students at NAMTECH (New Age Makers’ Institute of Technology) who won gold and bronze medals in the ‘Industry 4.0’ skills competition of IndiaSkills 2024, will now represent India at the WorldSkills in Lyon, France, in September 2024.

The winners at IndiaSkills from NAMTECH were Dhrumil Gandhi and Satyajit Balakrishnan, who won gold, and KM Astha and Giridhar Madagani who won bronze.

WorldSkills will bring together 1,500 competitors from more than 70 countries in a tournament dubbed the ‘Olympics of Skilling.’

Mr Arunkumar Pillai, Director General at NAMTECH: “This a remarkable moment for NAMTECH at such an early stage of its journey, but our job has just begun, and the focus now is on training our students for the finals in Lyon to become World Champions.”

IndiaSkills is the country’s biggest skill competition. The winners at the four-day IndiaSkills event held in mid-May showcased talent on a national platform across 61 skills – from traditional crafts to cutting-edge technologies and included everything from drone-filmmaking, textile weaving, leather shoemaking, and prosthetics make-up.

The Industry 4.0 skills competition was held at NAMTECH, Gandhinagar, and saw 10 teams comprising 20 contestants from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. The contestants showcased Industry 4.0 skills on tasks related to digital twin, network security, and troubleshooting mechatronics systems.

NAMTECH had earlier hosted the Gujarat district and state level competitions. State winners from earlier competitions also participated in the rounds conducted by NAMTECH.

About 2.5 lakh candidates registered for the competition on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) Portal, out of which 26,000 were shortlisted. State-level contests further reduced the number to a shortlist of around 900 students for the IndiaSkills national round.

NAMTECH hosted the national levels of IndiaSkills 2024 (Industry 4.0 category) in collaboration with National Skill Development Corporation, Automotive Skills Development Council -India and with support from Festo India.
