Gandhinagar : Students in Gujarat rejoicing over the prospect of an early summer break will have to wait a few extra days. The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has announced a revision in the summer vacation schedule for schools affiliated with the board.

Originally slated to begin on May 6th, the summer break will now commence on May 9th, 2024. This adjustment comes in light of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state. Many teachers will be deployed for election duties, and the revised schedule ensures they can be relieved from their responsibilities before the official start of the vacation.

Previously, schools under the GSHSEB board were scheduled for a break from May 6th to June 9th. With the revision, the vacation period will now run from May 9th to June 12th. Schools will reopen their doors on June 13th, marking the commencement of the new academic year.

This change in vacation dates isn’t limited to schools. Gujarat University and Gujarat Technological University have also seen adjustments to their academic calendars due to the elections. Gujarat University, which initially planned its summer break from May 1st to June 15th, will now begin its vacation on June 9th, extending it until June 26th. This revision ensures minimal disruption to university operations while accommodating the involvement of teachers in election-related duties.

The revised vacation schedule, while causing a slight delay for students, ensures a smooth transition for educators involved in the electoral process. This collaborative approach between education boards and election authorities helps maintain the integrity of both academic activities and democratic processes within Gujarat.
