Ahmedabad : Fairfield by Marriott Kitchen Shut Down by AMC Over Hygiene Concerns

Ahmedabad : The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has cracked down on Fairfield by Marriott, a prominent hotel located on Ashram Road. The civic body ordered the immediate closure of the hotel’s kitchen operation until further notice, citing public health concerns. This action was taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The decision to shut down the kitchen stemmed from a complaint received by the AMC regarding a dead insect found in soup served at the hotel. Following up on the complaint, a Food Safety Officer conducted a site inspection and discovered violations of regulations laid out in Schedule 4 of the aforementioned Act. The inspection revealed shortcomings in hygiene practices within the kitchen and cafe area.

Furthermore, the hotel failed to produce necessary documentation upon request. The missing documents included a pest control certificate and medical fitness certificates for staff members. Due to these non-compliances, the AMC team issued a closure order for the kitchen and served a formal notice to the hotel management.

This incident serves as a warning to all food establishments in Ahmedabad. The AMC has reiterated the importance of maintaining proper hygiene standards and adhering to licensing requirements. The civic body has emphasized that hotels, restaurants, fast-food outlets, and street vendors must obtain pest control certificates and contracts for kitchen waste disposal. Additionally, these establishments are required to hold valid licenses and registrations. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in closure and sealing of the premises.
