Ahmedabad : As India gears up for the ambitious Mumbai – Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, safety measures are being meticulously implemented to mitigate potential challenges along the route. Among these measures, a comprehensive wind speed monitoring system has been devised to safeguard train operations, particularly in regions prone to strong coastal winds.

The western coastal regions, through which the Bullet Train corridor will pass, are known for their high wind speeds, posing a potential threat to train operations on elevated viaducts. To address this concern, authorities have identified 14 strategic locations along the corridor, spanning nine in Gujarat and five in Maharashtra, for the installation of Anemometers.

Anemometers, a key component of the wind speed monitoring system, are sophisticated devices designed to measure wind speed and direction in real-time. These installations will focus primarily on river bridges and areas susceptible to sudden gusts, ensuring continuous surveillance of wind conditions along the viaduct.

The Anemometers are equipped to capture wind speeds within the range of 0 to 252 kilometers per hour, covering a full 360-degree spectrum. This comprehensive data will enable authorities to proactively respond to fluctuating wind conditions and adjust train speeds accordingly, enhancing safety for passengers and infrastructure alike.

In the event that wind speeds escalate to levels between 72 to 130 kilometers per hour, necessary precautions will be taken to regulate train speeds, ensuring optimal safety standards are maintained throughout the journey.

The monitoring and management of wind speeds will be centralized through the Operation Control Centre (OCC), where trained personnel will oversee data collected from the Anemometers installed at various locations along the corridor. This centralized approach will facilitate prompt decision-making and response mechanisms in the event of adverse weather conditions.

Speaking on the implementation of the wind speed monitoring system, a project spokesperson stated, “Safety is paramount in the execution of the Bullet Train project. By deploying advanced Anemometers and establishing a robust monitoring framework, we aim to ensure the smooth and secure operation of trains along the Mumbai – Ahmedabad corridor.”
