Rajkot : As part of ongoing efforts to safeguard historical heritage, both the Central and State Governments are embarking on a significant endeavor to restore 11 heritage schools in Rajkot district.

With a total allocation of Rs. 5.14 crore, this initiative aims to revitalize these age-old institutions, preserving their rich legacy for future generations. The decision, made prior to the electoral announcements, underscores the government’s commitment to heritage conservation and educational advancement.

The lush hinterlands of Dhoraji and Upleta in Rajkot district are set to witness a transformative revival as plans are underway to renovate 11 heritage schools dating back to the Rajshahi era. These primary schools, long neglected and in a state of disrepair, are poised to undergo a remarkable transformation, breathing new life into their historical significance.

The restoration project, amounting to Rs. 5.14 crore, will entail the refurbishment of six schools in Dhoraji and five schools in Upleta. This investment not only aims to preserve the architectural marvels of a bygone era but also seeks to invigorate educational activities in these regions by revitalizing dilapidated school infrastructure.

Collector Prabhav Joshi, speaking on the occasion, shed light on the historical significance of these institutions, tracing their origins back to the visionary leadership of Maharaja Bhagwatsinhji during the early 20th century. Under his patronage, Gondal, Upleta, and Dhoraji witnessed remarkable progress in the realm of modern education, with schools springing up in every village to nurture the intellectual potential of the local populace.

The renovation endeavor, expected to benefit 1,737 students across the district, symbolizes a convergence of heritage preservation and educational empowerment. By breathing new life into these heritage schools, the initiative not only honors the legacy of past rulers but also lays the foundation for a brighter future, where education serves as a beacon of progress and enlightenment.

Furthermore, the rejuvenation of these heritage schools is poised to catalyze educational activities in the district’s inner talukas, fostering a conducive environment for academic growth and community development. Beyond serving as mere repositories of history, these institutions are envisioned as vibrant hubs of learning, inspiring generations to come and nurturing a deep appreciation for the region’s rich cultural heritage.
