Gandhinagar : The Gujarat Olympic Planning and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (GOLYMPIC) has taken a giant leap towards realizing its 2036 Olympic dream with the unveiling of the master plan for the city’s Sports Enclave. This ambitious project, estimated to cost Rs 6,000 crore, promises to be a transformative hub for sports, culture, and commerce, poised to propel Ahmedabad onto the global stage.

Spread across 236 acres in Motera, adjacent to the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, the Sports Enclave will be a symphony of athletic prowess and vibrant community life. At its heart lies the “Ring of Unity” (RoU), a 150-meter diameter plaza symbolizing the spirit of the Games. Envisioned as a dynamic space for art, culture, and public gatherings, the RoU will have a permanent capacity of 5,000, with an expandable structure capable of accommodating up to 12,000 people.

Six world-class sports complexes, each dedicated to specific disciplines, will form the backbone of the enclave. From the thrill of aquatics to the grace of gymnastics, the complexes will be built to international standards, aiming to nurture future Olympians and inspire generations to come. Construction is slated to begin in 2027-28 and be completed by 2030, ensuring ample time for rigorous testing and preparation before the Games.

Sustainability and accessibility are key tenets of the master plan. The Sports Enclave will be seamlessly connected to the city’s metro network, making it easily accessible to all. In a commendable move towards responsible resource utilization, the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre will be repurposed as the primary media center and international broadcasting hub, eliminating the need for new facilities.

Beyond the Olympic spectacle, the enclave promises to be a vibrant hub for everyday life. An international dining district, retail spaces, and outdoor play areas will create a dynamic community where residents can come together, celebrate, and enjoy the best of leisure and entertainment.
