Ahmedabad : The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat has thrown its unequivocal support behind the Anganwadi and ASHA workers’ quest for fair treatment. These dedicated workers, long battling for revised pay scales and fundamental rights, have set a deadline of January 14, 2024, for the state government to heed their legitimate demands.

Frontal president of AAP in Gujarat, Pravin Ram, voiced the party’s staunch commitment to assist the cause during a gathering in Ahmedabad on December 27, emphasizing, “Our party stands ready to extend unwavering support in every possible way.”

Ram lambasted the ruling BJP, accusing it of exploiting the Anganwadi and ASHA workers over the course of several years. He highlighted the government’s alleged indifference, citing the recent denial of permission for their rally as evidence of a systemic disregard for their grievances.

“The BJP government has turned a deaf ear to these workers’ pleas, denying them a voice in decisions that impact their livelihoods,” alleged Ram.

Reports suggest that approximately one lakh Anganwadi and ASHA workers in Gujarat are rallying behind more than ten critical demands. These demands encompass a spectrum of issues, including the revision of pay scales, an increase in the retirement age, provisions for government cell phones or compensation for personal devices used for official duties, and relaxation of age constraints for promotions.

Dr. Karan Barot, AAP’s spokesperson in Gujarat, highlighted the workers’ persistent efforts, stating, “These diligent workers have repeatedly submitted memoranda to the state government, but unfortunately, their legitimate representations have fallen on deaf ears.”

In a firm stance, these workers have signaled their intent to resort to a strike if their demands are not met by the stipulated deadline of January 14, 2024, underscoring the urgency for the government to address their grievances and ensure their rightful entitlements.

The AAP’s resolute backing and the unwavering determination of the Anganwadi and ASHA workers paint a vivid picture of a unified pursuit of justice, calling upon the government to take decisive action before the looming deadline.
