Surat : Brain Dead Tribal Youth donates organs to four

Surat : The family of brain dead Kamal Gamit, a 28-year-old from Tichkiya village in Songadh taluka, Tapi district, made a life-altering decision following a tragic accident. Kamal, involved in a road collision on November 8, was rushed to Vyara civil hospital and later referred to the New Civil Hospital (NCH) in Surat due to severe head injuries sustained from the accident.

After ten days under the care of medical experts including RMO Dr. Ketan Nayak, Dr. Nilesh Kachdia, neurologist Dr. Jay Patel, and neurosurgeon Dr. Harin Modi, Kamal Gamit was declared brain dead on November 20, leaving his family facing a challenging decision amidst tragedy.

It was Kamal’s family, led by his father Arvindbhai Gamit, who ultimately chose to honor Kamal’s legacy through a profound act of altruism. Counseled by medical professionals including Dr. Ketan Naik, Dr. Nilesh Kachdia, Iqbal Kadiwala, and Nirmala Kathude of Gujarat Nursing Council, the Gamit family decided to donate Kamal’s vital organs, including his kidneys, liver, and lungs, to benefit others in need.

This selfless gesture marked the 50th organ donation in the past year at NCH Surat and exemplified the Gamit family’s commitment to extending compassion and hope to others during their moment of immense grief.

“Thus Gamit family has provided a great example of humanity by giving a new life to four persons with the organ donation of one of their sons,” remarked an official from the hospital.

Kamal, known for his contribution as a construction worker specializing in centering, leaves behind a one-and-a-half-year-old son named Parth. His family’s decision, amidst their profound loss, underscores the immense impact of organ donation in transforming and saving lives.
