Surat : Indian Railways has created over 1.5 lakh jobs in the last one year, setting a new record for recruitment. This is in addition to the record number of jobs created in the previous eight years. The new recruits have been posted in various departments, including mechanical, electrical, civil, signal and telecommunications.

The railways has also conducted the world’s biggest recruitment drive through a computer-based test/online exam. This exam was held between December 2020 and July 2021, and attracted over 2.37 crore candidates. The exam was conducted in a corruption-free and transparent manner, and was successful on a large scale.

In addition to direct employment, the railways is also generating indirect employment through its infrastructure projects. For example, the construction of 5,600 km of tracks in the last one year has generated over 5 lakh man-days of employment. The railways is also working on other infrastructure projects such as OHE, signaling, PUs and PSUs, and station redevelopment. These projects are also generating employment opportunities.

The railways has allocated Rs. 2.6 lakh crore for infrastructure development in the current financial year, which is the highest ever CAPEX. Expenditure up to September 2023 is Rs. 1,50,444 crore, which is an increase of 46% over the previous year. This investment is also helping to generate employment on the railways.

The creation of new jobs by the railways is a welcome development, as it will help to boost the Indian economy. The railways is a major employer in India, and its investment in infrastructure is generating significant employment opportunities.
