Surat orthopaedic wins gold for ‘Needle Plasty’ knee pain treatment

Surat :  Dr. Jignesh Patel, a distinguished professor in the Orthopaedic department at Surat’s New Civil Hospital (NCH), has made a name for himself in the medical community by winning the gold medal at the 2nd Annual Orthopaedic Research Conference, which was co-hosted by the Indian Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (IAOS) and the North Kolkata Orthopaedic Club (NKOC).

Dr. Patel was honoured for his innovative research work on the novel ‘Needle Plasty’ approach for treating knee pain. Dr. Patel’s name will go down in medical history as the first Orthopaedic Surgeon in India to design a pattern-correct therapy procedure for knee pain.

The annual conference, organized by IAOS-NKOC, attracted orthopedic surgeons from Bangladesh, Nepal, Italy, and various states across India. Out of 25 research papers presented, only 10 were selected for recognition, with Dr. Jignesh Patel being among the two orthopedic doctors honored in the first place. His pioneering work in the field of knee treatment through ‘Needle Plasty’ has the potential to revolutionize how knee pain is addressed.

Dr. Patel’s research paper, titled ‘Needle Plasty – Microsurgery of Knee Joint,’ garnered significant acclaim from orthopedic surgeons attending the conference. The event brought together representatives from numerous countries to discuss groundbreaking research in the field of bone health and treatment methods. Dr. Patel’s innovative technique promises to enhance blood circulation and reduce the wear and tear between knee joint bones, offering a promising alternative for knee pain sufferers.

Over his impressive 12-year tenure at NCH in Surat, Dr. Jignesh Patel has performed more than 1200 bone surgeries, with approximately 600 of those being knee surgeries. His dedicated efforts and commitment to advancing orthopedic treatments led to the development of the ‘Needle Plasty’ method. Dr. Patel invested nearly two years meticulously preparing his research paper, which has now gained global recognition.

Explaining the significance of his research, Dr. Jignesh Patel highlighted that knee pain often stems from bone death within the knee structure, resulting from the interruption of blood supply. To counteract this issue and enhance blood circulation while reducing wear and tear, the ‘Needle Plasty’ technique employs a special needle technique to relax muscles.

Dr. Patel expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the ‘Needle Plasty’ method, emphasizing that this conference marked a milestone in the field of orthopedic surgery. He stated, “This is the first time that a surgery association has emerged specifically and uniquely for orthopedic surgeons to benefit the patient. It is an association of surgeons who develop techniques combining ancient orthopedic treatments with modern scientific evidence.”
