Surat : The Western Railway (WR) has launched a comprehensive investigation into over 100 Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendras (YTKSs) in the western region following a widespread scandal at the YTKS in Surat. Reports revealed that common passengers were issued tickets from the quotas allocated for pregnant women and senior citizens, with an extra charge of Rs 1000.
Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendras (YTKSs), an initiative of the Railway Board, were established nationwide to streamline railway ticket bookings for pregnant women and senior citizens, utilizing reservation quotas on various trains.
The controversy centers around YTKS center number 2079 in Surat, where a significant violation of the reservation system occurred. Common passengers were granted confirmed reserved tickets by illicitly exploiting the reservation quota designated for pregnant women. This particular YTKS facility is located at the India Textile Market on Ring Road in Surat.
Western Railway officials have confirmed that these irregularities persisted for approximately six months. Common passengers seeking to secure railway tickets under the pregnant women quota were compelled to pay an additional Rs 1000.
Railway Board guidelines dictate that passengers must present a medical certificate, issued by registered doctors, to authenticate pregnancy before obtaining a reserved ticket from the pregnant women’s quota. Shockingly, at the Surat YTKS, common passengers were issued tickets without providing the required pregnancy certificate.
The revelation of these fraudulent activities has prompted the Western Railway to take swift action and initiate a thorough inquiry into the operations of over 100 Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendras in the western region. The railway authorities are determined to root out such malpractices and ensure that the reservation system is used in a fair and transparent manner.
