Surat : Daxesh Mavani, who succeeds Hemali Boghawal as Mayor of Surat, is one of several new leaders appointed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). This is in keeping with the BJP’s promise to replace long-serving leaders in Gujarat’s local governments with new blood.

On Tuesday, Daxesh Mavani, a powerful leader from the Saurashtra-Patel community and a senior BJP councillor representing Katargam, was named the next Mayor of Surat. The BJP’s goal is to revitalise government by introducing fresh perspectives and ideas while maintaining a focus on the interests and concerns of the people, and this decision reflects that priority.

CR Paatil, chief of the Gujarat BJP, had earlier said that incumbent candidates for seats in the state’s several municipal corporations would not be re-elected.

Several other key positions within the SMC have also been filled, joining Mayor Mavani. Rajan Patel, a former journalist and prominent member of the BJP, has been named Chairman of the SMC’s Standing Committee. Naresh Patil has been appointed to the position of Deputy Mayor of Surat.

Sashiben Tripathi’s elevation as party leader in the SMC is a major development that was announced in this statement. The appointment of a woman to this post shows the BJP’s dedication to diversity and equality at the highest levels of government.

Despite his recent loss in the election for the Surat People’s Cooperative Bank (SPB), veteran BJP councillor Dharmesh Vaniawala has been appointed as the party’s Chief Whip in the SMC. The trust shown in him by the party in this appointment is clear.

It is well known that Mayor Daxesh Mavani is a trusted friend of Gujarat BJP Chief CR Paatil. He has been an ardent supporter of Katargam residents, speaking out against problems like textile mill pollution that harm his constituents. Mavani started a movement to shut down these factories and their harmful emissions, protecting the health of locals.

According to Surat BJP Unit custom, the mayorship rotates every 2.5 years between a Surti and a Saurashtrian Patel.

Adding additional evidence of the BJP’s dedication to gender diversity in leadership roles, the party recently made history by appointing eight women councillors to the SMC’s 12-member Standing Committee.

Daxesh Mavani, mayor of the city, said, “My focus will be on the ongoing infrastructure works in the city and ensuring their timely completion.” I care more about seeing the Tapi riverside project through to a successful conclusion.

The new Chairman of the Standing Committee, Rajan Patel, echoed similar thoughts when he said, “Many developmental activities are going on in the city, including the big-ticket Surat Metro train project. People in the city are having a tough time getting about on the roadways as a result of the ongoing infrastructure improvements. We’ll see to it that the Surat Metro and other infrastructure projects are finished on time.
