Surat : The Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President, CR Paatil, has made an announcement on the introduction of direct international flights from Surat to Dubai and Hong Kong.

These flights are scheduled to commence in December 2023, coinciding with the opening of the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The SDB is anticipated to achieve the status of being the biggest office block globally, surpassing the renowned Pentagon in the United States.

According to CR Paatil, the Chief of Gujarat BJP, a meeting was conducted in New Delhi with Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Civil Aviation Minister, to deliberate on the matter of international aviation connectivity from Surat, in relation to the opening of the SDB by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the notification received from the Civil Aviation Ministry, it has been conveyed that Surat will be facilitating the operation of two international flights to Dubai and Hong Kong in the month of December. Additionally, weekly flights to Singapore and London will also be made available.

Paatil proceeded to elaborate on the considerable influence exerted by these foreign flights on Surat’s diamond and textile sectors. He said that the provision of international air connectivity to prominent destinations such as Dubai, Hong Kong, London, and Singapore would fortify the city’s diamond and textile businesses. Diamond purchasers from various international locations, including Dubai, the United States, Hong Kong, and other nations, will have the opportunity to go to Surat and attend the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) for the purpose of purchasing diamonds.

At now, Surat airport facilitates a solitary flight to Sharjah, which is overseen by Air India Express and runs three times every week.

The Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB), which was built at a cost of Rs 3,200 crore, is now recognised as the biggest office structure globally. It spans an extensive area of 66 lakh square metres and is situated in the Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City in Khajod, about 15 km away from Surat. The SDB is widely regarded as one of the most technologically equipped diamond bourses on a worldwide scale, providing facilities for almost 4,200 diamond offices.

It is anticipated that about 1,000 diamond establishments will begin their activities starting from November 21, while the formal launch of the diamond exchange is planned for December 17.
