Surat : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm Biporjoy is expected to intensify further in the coming hours and move in a north-northeast direction. As a precautionary measure, Tithal Beach in Valsad, situated along the Arabian Sea coast in South Gujarat, has been temporarily closed until June 14 due to the anticipated impact of the cyclone.

The emergence of high waves along the coast of Tithal Beach has raised concerns for visitor safety. The decision to temporarily close the beach aims to mitigate any potential risks associated with the approaching cyclone. The authorities prioritize the well-being of the public and aim to prevent any untoward incidents.

Providing further information, BK Vasava, the incharge district Collector of Surat, highlighted that the wind speed, currently ranging between 35 to 40 kmph, is expected to increase to 65 to 70 kmph on June 12th and 13th. In light of these projections, officials have been urged to make necessary preparations to tackle any potential emergency situations arising from the storm’s impact.

The authorities have emphasized the need to address power-related issues that may arise due to strong winds, such as power pole collapses and disruptions in the power supply. The Gujarat Power Company Ltd. has issued instructions to repair power lines promptly and take necessary measures to restore electricity in case of any disruptions. Additionally, teams of officials have been put on standby to ensure that essential services, including drinking water, electricity, and telecommunication, remain functional without interruption.

The district collector highlighted that officials are actively monitoring the situation in coastal areas. Precautionary measures have been implemented, including the temporary closure of Hazira-Ghogha ro-ro ferry service. Fishermen from Surat sea have returned safely, and those still at sea have been urged to return immediately to avoid any potential hazards.

Several beaches in Surat, including Suvali, Dumas, and Dabhari, have been closed to the public, and residents have been requested to refrain from visiting coastal areas. The animal husbandry and agriculture departments have also been alerted and asked to be prepared for any exigencies.

With the cyclonic storm Biporjoy gaining strength, it is crucial for authorities and residents to remain vigilant and follow the instructions provided by the concerned agencies. Safety should be the top priority, and proactive measures are necessary to minimize the potential impact of the cyclone on life and property.

By taking these precautionary steps and ensuring effective preparedness, the authorities aim to safeguard the well-being of the people and mitigate the risks posed by the cyclonic storm. Continuous monitoring of the situation and prompt response to any emergencies will be crucial in dealing with the potential effects of Cyclone Biporjoy in the affected regions.
