Mumbai : In a shocking turn of events, Manoj Sane’s attempt to evade the law by dismembering and disposing of his deceased live-in partner’s body parts was ultimately thwarted by a relentless search for a dead rat. The 56-year-old was finally exposed when the stench emanating from his apartment became unbearable for the residents of Geeta Akashdeep building in Geeta Nagar, Mira Road, near Mumbai.

Residents residing on the seventh floor of the building initiated a thorough investigation of their homes and the building terrace after a putrid odor permeated their floor. In their quest for the source, they even approached Sane’s door, requesting access to his flat for a similar inspection. Regrettably, their appeal went unanswered.

The Disturbing Odor and Growing Suspicion among Neighbors

The dreadful incident unfolded on June 4, when Saraswati Vaidya, aged 32, was murdered in Sane’s rented flat, 704, in the morning. By noon, Sane had left to purchase tools required to dismember the body.

According to reports from the Times of India, on Monday morning, the occupants of flats 701, 702, and 703 noticed an unpleasant odor upon leaving their residences. By Tuesday, the stench had intensified.

Anu Srivastava, residing in flat 703, and her husband Vivek, who moved in approximately a year ago, expressed their concerns. Anu stated, “We have always had a cordial relationship with the other three families. However, Sane and Vaidya rarely interacted with us. Consequently, while we diligently cleaned our homes, we refrained from informing the couple about the odor.”

As their neighboring families persisted in their search for the source, their efforts proved futile. Tuesday morning witnessed an incident when Vivek and Sane shared an elevator ride together, accompanied by Vivek’s young daughter bidding farewell. However, due to the unbearable smell, Vivek instructed his wife to take their one-year-old daughter away promptly.

By Wednesday morning, the odor had reached an intolerable level. It became evident to the family of Niraj Srivastava, residing in flat 701, that the foul smell originated from flat 704, as quoted by a family member.

Manoj Sane’s gruesome act of murder and subsequent attempts to conceal the crime were inadvertently exposed by the persistent and overpowering stench that gripped the Geeta Akashdeep building. The community was left horrified and shocked by the revelation of this sinister event unfolding within their midst.
