Surat : US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has released a study showing that in 2022, more students came from India than China. An estimated 64,300 Indian students studied in the United States in 2022, surpassing the previous highest sender, China, who sent 24,796 students.

Because of this change, students from Asia are now the most numerous continental group studying in the United States.

In reaction to the survey, Sanjay Laul, Founder and Advisor of education management business M Square Media (MSM), stated, “The increase in the number of Indian students studying in the US is a testament to the growing value of American higher education in India.” “It also shows how seriously both countries take the promotion of academic ties,” the authors write.

Global Enrollment in Primary and Secondary Education

The number of foreign students enrolled in kindergarten through grade 12 programmes increased by 7.8 percent, reaching a total of 3,887, according to data collected by the Student and Exchange Visitor Programme (SEVP) between 2021 and 2022. No K-12 institution will have more than 700 foreign students in 2022, which is consistent with data from 2020.

Optional Practical Training (OPT) applications from students are also on the increase. The number of pre- and post-graduation OPT students with EADs and employer-reported employment rose to 117,301 in 2022, up from 115,651 in 2021, according to the study.

Despite this improvement, the number of SEVP-approved institutions in a position to enrol foreign students dropped by 400 in 2022, from 8,038 in 2021, to 7,683.

In 2022, there will be 225,173 foreign students studying in California, making up 16.5 percent of the overall international student population in the United States.

The number of active exchange visitors visiting the United States increased by 15% in 2022, from 240,479 to 276,723. One percentage point less than in 2021, the research found that 46 percent of all active Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) entries were created in either China (3,24,196) or India (2,97,151).

The majority of international students are from Asia.

Even now, almost 70% of all foreign students come from Asia and study in the United States.

However, patterns in student files varied considerably between nations. Saudi Arabia (-4,115), Kuwait (-658), and Malaysia (-403) are also among the Asian nations that will send fewer students in 2022 compared to 2021.

“The dynamic nature of international student enrollment reflects the global interest in American education and the ever-changing landscape of academic opportunities,” Laul said of broad trends in international student numbers. As an industry, “we must continue to adapt and evolve to meet the needs of these students and ensure a positive experience for all.”
