Pune (Maharashtra) : DeepTek, a leading health tech startup in the Radiology AI space, announced the global launch of DeepSpine, a lumbar spine quantification and metrics tool powered by AI that analyses MRI lumbar spine images. The tool was unveiled at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, Illinois.

DeepTek has been instrumental in transforming the radiology workflow through the use of artificial intelligence. Augmento, its AI-powered radiology orchestration solution, has already made waves across Asia Pacific and is being deployed in a progressive Singapore health system. DeepTek’s other flagship product is Genki, an AI-powered public health screening solution that is assisting medical professionals in India, the Philippines, Mongolia, and several other APAC countries in eradicating tuberculosis by identifying suspected cases promptly and precisely, resulting in earlier treatment and better patient care.

DeepTek’s new innovation – DeepSpine – provides an AI-powered quantification and analysis tool for lumbar spine MRI studies, assisting radiologists, technologists, orthopaedic surgeons, and physio experts in obtaining objective automated quantification and other lumbar spine documents, adding value to radiology reports and decongesting radiology workflow.

Lower back pain (LBP) affects up to 80%-85% of the population at some point in their lives. It is a leading cause of morbidity and disability, and its prevalence is increasing due to the world’s ageing population. The American College of Radiologists recommends lumbar spine MRI to rule out causes of complicated lower back pain and to determine whether conservative or invasive therapeutic approaches should be considered. As a result, the number of lumbar spine MRI studies has increased at a much faster rate in recent decades than the number of trained radiologists who can adequately interpret the MR images.

“The lumbar spine MRI quantification and metrics tool can derive metrics from MRI studies such as Vertebral Body Heights, Disc Bulge Classification, Foraminal Stenosis, Listhesis, Canal Stenosis, and various spine angles,” says Dr. Amit Kharat, Radiologist and Co-Founder of DeepTek. This can aid in treatment planning and progress monitoring by providing deep insights. The tool can be a great value add to the ecosystem of health care workers managing low back pain”.

DeepTek (www.deeptek.ai) is one of a small number of Radiology AI start-ups that has successfully established commercial adoption of AI technology in clinical practise, generating clear and quantifiable value for patients, hospitals, and radiologists. DeepTek’s products are used by over 350 global customers in India, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Nigeria, Kenya, and other countries. Every month, DeepTek’s offering affects over 60,000 people.

DeepTek employs over 170 people, including a unique mix of technology experts and radiologists. TATA Capital Healthcare Fund II, NTT DATA (a leading global IT innovator with a large medical imaging business in the United States), Nobori Ltd. (Japan’s leading Radiology solutions company), Doctor-Net Inc. (Japan’s largest teleradiology company), and a few other institutional investors have also made strategic equity investments. DeepTek’s work has been presented at global radiology events and resulted in research publications with over 200 citations in a short period of time. DeepTek has six global patents and is working on several more.

The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) invited radiologists from around the world to participate in their scientific and educational programmes at the RSNA 2022 Scientific Assembly and annual meeting. The RSNA is a non-profit organisation with over 54,000 members from 136 countries. Through education, research, and technological innovation, the RSNA promotes excellence in patient care and health care delivery. The RSNA provides patient-centered care resources to help you improve your skills and empower your patients to make better health-care decisions.
