Ahmedabad, Gujarat — In a harrowing industrial accident in the Danilimda area of Ahmedabad, three workers tragically lost their lives while cleaning a sewage tank at a local factory. The incident has sparked outrage over the lack of basic safety measures provided to laborers involved in hazardous tasks.
The factory, MK Creation, engaged in laundry operations, had been shut for a year and was recently preparing to resume business. In this process, the factory owner, Nausadbhai, hired a contractor named Jignesh Purbiya to clean the underground sewage tank on the premises. The contractor began the task on Wednesday evening with a team of five workers.
However, when the job remained incomplete, three workers—Prakash Parmar, Vishal Thakor, and Sunil Rathwa—returned on Thursday morning to finish the task. While inside the tank, one worker reportedly slipped and fell. In an effort to rescue him, the remaining two also entered the tank. All three were quickly overwhelmed by toxic gases that had accumulated inside the confined space.
Despite being rushed to LG Hospital, all three were declared dead upon arrival. Families of the deceased gathered in large numbers at the hospital, grieving the sudden loss of their loved ones.
Preliminary investigations by the Danilimda police and Division ACP Yuvrajsinh Gohil revealed that no safety equipment—such as gas masks, oxygen cylinders, or harnesses—had been provided to the workers. “Primarily, it appears that there was a complete lack of safety provisions. We have initiated an FIR, and further charges will be added based on CCTV footage and statements,” said ACP Gohil.
The police are currently questioning both the factory manager and the contractor. Authorities have confirmed that a formal complaint will be lodged at the Danilimda police station. If any criminal negligence or past offenses are uncovered during interrogation, arrests will be made immediately, police said.
