Youth Falls 40 Feet While Making Reel on Kim Overbridge

SURAT : A reckless attempt to turn a railway overbridge into a social media stunt nearly ended in tragedy in Surat, after a 21-year-old youth fell around 40 feet while trying to make a reel at the Kim Railway Overbridge. He survived only because he landed on rickshaws parked below, though two vehicles were badly damaged.

The youth, identified as Monu, originally from Bihar and currently working in Kosamba, had reached the overbridge with a friend. According to preliminary details, the duo climbed the pillars of the bridge to shoot a reel.

Monu then reportedly attempted a film-style jump from one pillar to another. However, the considerable gap between the pillars caused him to lose his balance. He plunged through the gap and fell onto two rickshaws parked underneath.

The impact badly damaged both vehicles, but the rickshaws effectively broke his fall and helped prevent a potentially fatal outcome. The incident was captured by a nearby CCTV camera.

People at the spot immediately rushed towards the injured youth, while the incident triggered a crowd in the area. Kim police reached the location after being alerted and took Monu to the police station before arranging his medical examination at a nearby hospital.

After treatment, police reportedly released him with necessary instructions.

The incident once again highlights the growing dangers of performing risky stunts for social media attention.

Police and civic authorities have repeatedly cautioned youngsters against climbing bridges, buildings and other structures for reels, as even a minor miscalculation can prove fatal.

The Kim incident comes amid similar cases in Gujarat. Earlier, a youth in Junagadh reportedly jumped into Willingdon Dam while attempting to make a social media reel. Police caught him after the video was uploaded online, following which he apologised.
