Ahmedabad : In a bid to enhance passenger amenities, Western Railway has announced plans to establish ‘Rail Coach Restaurants’ at five major railway stations within the Ahmedabad Division. These unique dining facilities will be set up in the circulating areas of Mehsana, Sabarmati, Ambli Road, Bhuj, and Gandhidham railway stations, providing passengers with a luxurious dining experience.

According to Annu Tyagi, Commercial Manager of Ahmedabad Division, these restaurants will be developed by converting disused train coaches into stylish, air-conditioned dining spaces. They will offer both indoor and outdoor seating arrangements, catering to travelers and local residents alike. The initiative aims to blend innovation, sustainability, and utility, ensuring a premium culinary experience within railway premises.

Fun Zone and Multi-Cuisine Menu

One of the key attractions of the ‘Rail Coach Restaurants’ will be a dedicated fun zone for children, making them a family-friendly dining destination. The revamped coaches will be equipped with attached kitchens, state-of-the-art interiors, and a diverse menu featuring multi-cuisine options to cater to varied tastes. This eco-friendly initiative aligns with Indian Railways’ commitment to improving passenger facilities while repurposing retired assets efficiently.

24/7 Dining and Takeaway Services

The ‘Rail Coach Restaurants’ will be operational 24 hours a day, allowing travelers and residents easy access to quality food at any time. Takeaway counters will also be set up, enabling passengers to quickly place orders on the go. This move is expected to significantly boost the Non-Fare Revenue (NFR) of Indian Railways.

Expansion Plans Underway

Tenders have already been invited for the contracts related to these five planned establishments. Western Railway is also exploring opportunities to expand this initiative further within the Ahmedabad Division. The transformation of disused railway coaches into fully functional restaurants is a testament to the railway’s commitment to combining innovation with passenger convenience.
