SuratSurat’s Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) is gearing up to create history in the field of research and innovation. With an ambitious plan to establish a Central Research and Innovation Building, the university has secured a grant of ₹25 crore under the PM-USHA (Prime Minister’s University Scheme for Holistic Advancement) initiative. This state-of-the-art facility is expected to revolutionize research and significantly boost the scientific capabilities of the university.

Vice Chancellor Kishoresinh Chavda announced that the building, designed with cutting-edge technology, will focus on enhancing practical research tailored to the industrial needs of seven districts in South Gujarat. Key sectors such as diamond, textiles, logistics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and the blue economy will benefit from this initiative.

Bridging Academia and Industry

The Central Research and Innovation Building aims to provide students with real-world practical research opportunities using the latest industrial equipment. This facility will cater to the growing needs of industries in the region, particularly Surat, a hub for textiles and diamonds. The integration of advanced technology will ensure that students and researchers remain at the forefront of industry innovation.

The research center will house cutting-edge instruments, including:Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer,Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Spectrometer

Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES),X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD),Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM),Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS),High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).

Additionally, the building will include well-equipped laboratories designed for activities like chemical synthesis, biological testing, material characterization, and nanofabrication.

Boost to Regional Industries

Vice Chancellor Chavda highlighted that this research center aligns with the region’s industrial strengths, such as textiles and diamonds in Surat, logistics, and emerging sectors like the blue economy. The center’s first phase will be developed with ₹25 crore, with future expansion planned under the ₹100 crore PM-USHA scheme allocation.

This initiative is expected to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, attract skilled researchers, and generate new knowledge that could drive economic development in South Gujarat.

Positive Community Impact

The establishment of this research center is not only an academic milestone but also a step toward regional growth. By bridging the gap between academic research and industry requirements, VNSGU aims to cultivate innovation and provide solutions to real-world problems.

The Central Research and Innovation Building will elevate VNSGU’s status as a premier research institution in Gujarat, creating a lasting impact on students, researchers, and the local community.
