The electrical assistant of DGVCL performs a daredevil act to restore the power supply in the Kharwasa sub-division.

Surat: An electrical assistant of the Dakshin Gujarat Vij Gujarat Company Limited (DGVCL) performed a daredevil act to restore the power supply in the Kharwasa sub-division of Surat. Meet Vikram Patel, electrical assistant of DGVCL, who waded through chest-deep waters in the heavy rains, without caring for his life, and successfully restored the power supply of the entire Kharwasa section.

Official sources said the 11 KV Pardi Urban Feeder—a joint feeder of Sachin Rural and Kharwasa sub-divisions of Surat—was shut down after a technical fault due to heavy rains and waterlogging on September 24. The line staff of Sachin Rural sub-division patrolled the Kharwasa sub-division section and removed the Drop Out (D.O) tapping near Pardi high school and the 11 KV power supply was restored through Pardi Urban Feeder.

The incident was reported to the Kharwasa sub-division regarding the restoration of the power supply in the Sachin Rural sub-division.

However, the Kharwasa sub-division staff headed by electrical assistant Vikram Patel patrolled the entire power line of the Kharwasa section. In heavy rains and waterlogging, Patel repaired the broken jumper near Ambikanagar.

Patel then waded through the chest-deep water, without caring for his life, and successfully tapped the D.O and restored the power supply in the Kharwasa sub-division.

Vikram Patel’s commitment towards his duty and his loyalty were applauded by Arvind Vijayan, IAS, Managing Director, DGVCL. Patel was invited to the DGVCL headquarters at Kapodara, where he was felicitated with a letter of appreciation on Monday.
