Surat | Gujarat — Surat has once again proved that when it comes to passion and prestige, price tags take a backseat. The recent auction of the new ‘JX’ series at the Surat RTO turned into a spectacle of wealth and enthusiasm, with a record-breaking ₹13.81 lakh bid for the coveted ‘0001’ number plate.
The man behind the historic bid is city-based industrialist Paresh Khandelwal, founder and Managing Director of Yashvi Group, who secured the VIP number for his newly acquired ₹6 crore Lamborghini. The amount paid for the number plate alone is enough to buy a premium sedan or SUV, but for Surat’s luxury car enthusiasts, exclusivity comes first.
According to RTO officials, this is the highest amount ever paid for a single registration number in Surat’s history. “We have never witnessed such aggressive bidding for a single number. The enthusiasm in the JX series auction has broken all previous records,” an official said.
Breaking His Own Record
Interestingly, this is not the first time Khandelwal has made headlines for a fancy number. Just a year ago, he paid ₹11.95 lakh for the ‘0001’ number in the RZ series for his ₹2.70 crore Range Rover. With the latest ₹13.81 lakh bid, he has surpassed his own milestone.
Khandelwal is known for his passion for luxury automobiles. His collection reportedly includes brands like BMW, Mercedes, Range Rover, and Lamborghini — most of them carrying the prestigious ‘0001’ registration.
Fierce Competition for Premium Numbers
The excitement was not limited to ‘0001’. The number ‘9999’ fetched ₹3.62 lakh, while the James Bond-inspired ‘0007’ was sold for ₹3.01 lakh. Other sought-after numbers also attracted impressive bids: ₹2.83 lakh for GJ-05-JX-1234, ₹81,000 for 9119, ₹70,000 for 0005, ₹65,000 for 7000, ₹61,000 for 1000, ₹55,000 for 0006, and ₹42,000 for 0012.
These figures underline Surat’s growing obsession with exclusive number plates — a trend that reflects both status and individuality.
More Than Just Business
Beyond business, Paresh Khandelwal is a prominent name in Surat’s social and cultural circles. Through Yashvi Foundation, he has organized large-scale community events, including high-profile Navratri celebrations featuring singer Kinjal Dave in recent years. However, he has also faced controversy over a recent interfaith marriage at a group wedding event organized by the foundation.
