The incident unfolded when Raj Kumar fell unconscious while seated behind the steering wheel of his truck after entering a no-entry zone. This tragic event not only marks the loss of a young life but also highlights the often-overlooked health and safety concerns faced by truck drivers.
Raj Kumar, a truck driver hailing from Madhya Pradesh, moved to Surat three years ago to support his wife, two children, and parents. His decision to work as a truck driver was driven by a deep sense of responsibility and the need to provide for his family. His story resonates with the many unsung heroes who traverse the country’s highways to keep the wheels of commerce turning.
As a truck driver in Surat’s transport company, Raj Kumar’s life revolved around the open road. He spent long hours behind the wheel, often driving through challenging conditions and extended shifts to deliver goods. The nature of the job, involving sedentary work and irregular hours, can take a toll on one’s health over time.
On the day of the incident, Raj Kumar arrived at Ichapore in Surat to deliver goods for a private company. Due to the no-entry restrictions near the gate, he parked his truck some distance away. It was during this time that the tragedy struck.
Raj Kumar was seated in the driver’s seat when he suddenly fell unconscious. It was a moment of distress as his life hung in the balance. The cause, later suspected to be a heart attack, illustrates the health risks faced by truck drivers, often exacerbated by stress, long hours, and inadequate access to medical care on the road.
A security guard discovered Raj Kumar in this critical state and promptly rushed him to a nearby private hospital. Unfortunately, the efforts to save him were in vain, as on-duty doctors declared him brought dead. This tragic incident underscores the need for better health and safety measures for truck drivers.
Following his demise, Raj Kumar’s body was taken to the New Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination, a customary procedure in such cases. The family awaited answers and closure as they grappled with their profound loss.
A relative, Rajbhog Shahu, shared the family’s deep sense of grief and the challenges they now face. The shockwaves of Raj Kumar’s untimely death have left his pregnant wife, two children, and parents in profound sorrow, adding to the burden of their loss.
