Surat | Gujarat — You may have heard of women being caught in honey trap scams, but this time it was the police who laid the trap — and a seasoned fraudster fell straight into it. In a remarkable display of intelligence and strategy, woman PSI Sheetal Chaudhary of Surat Police disguised herself as a worshipper and ensnared car-scam accused Girish Madhu Deora through a 25-day-long fake WhatsApp friendship.

What began as a simple “Good Morning” message ended with handcuffs and confession.

A scam that turned into a chase

Girish Deora had become a nightmare for Surat Police. He had bought a second-hand Fortuner car in his friend Moosh Javed’s name, took a ₹30 lakh loan, and later sold the car in Punjab after paying just a few EMIs. When the EMIs stopped and the bank came knocking, his friend approached the police — but Girish had gone underground.

He kept his phone switched off, relied only on WhatsApp calls and chats, and constantly changed locations, making it nearly impossible to track him.

That’s when PSI Sheetal Chaudhary took charge and decided to fight tech with tact.

‘Sorry, wrong message’ – the bait that worked

Around 25 days ago, Girish received a random WhatsApp message:“Good Morning.”

Suspicious, he replied, “Who are you?”

The response came — “Pooja here… sorry, sent by mistake.”

This was the bait. The conversation that followed turned into a flirtatious online friendship, with heart emojis, “I Love You,” and “I Miss You” messages exchanged daily. Girish, unaware that his new “Pooja” was actually a police officer in khaki, began sharing personal details — even about his movements.

The final move: From heart emojis to handcuffs

After nearly four weeks of romantic chats, the “couple” decided to meet. Excited and confident, Girish arrived at Parvat Patiya in Surat to finally see his mystery friend. But instead of a woman in traditional attire, he was greeted by PSI Sheetal Chaudhary in uniform, flanked by a team of officers.

His heart sank — and the handcuffs clicked.

‘No one can escape the law’: DCP Alok Kumar

Confirming the arrest, DCP Alok Kumar said,“The accused was extremely cautious, using only WhatsApp for communication. PSI Sheetal’s presence of mind and patience turned the case around. Her innovative approach led to the arrest not only of Girish but also his associate, Kuldeep Ramesh Solanki.”

The police said both have confessed to the entire fraud and are now facing multiple charges under sections related to cheating and criminal conspiracy.

A case that proves intelligence can outsmart crime

This operation has earned widespread praise across the police force for its tactical brilliance and creativity. What many considered an untraceable cyber-fraud case turned into a masterclass in modern policing — blending technology, psychology, and patience.
