Surat : Four workers died on the spot in a tragic gas leakage incident at Neelam Industries, located in Kim GIDC of Mangrol taluka, Surat district on Wednesday.

The devastating accident occurred on Wednesday when four workers succumbed to suffocation after inadvertently inhaling toxic gas while opening drums filled with hazardous chemicals.

The calamitous disaster unfolded at Mota Borsara village, where the workers attempted to open the drums containing the chemicals. As they unsealed the containers, the toxic fumes overwhelmed them, leading to the untimely deaths of all four individuals. Among the deceased, two workers hailed from Ankleshwar, one from Kapodra, and one from Rajasthan, making it a heart-wrenching tragedy that has deeply affected multiple communities.

The local police responded promptly to the incident after being alerted, and they swiftly reached the site to investigate the situation and manage the chaos that ensued. The bodies of the deceased were carefully transported to Sadhana Hospital in Kim for post-mortem examinations.

The four unfortunate victims have been identified as Imtiyas Abdul Shaikh, aged 45, Amin Patel and Arun Umar, both aged 22, and Raghaji Umar, aged 54. Their untimely demise has left their families and communities in shock and mourning.

The incident occurred due to an unforeseen gas leak that transpired while the drums containing the chemicals were being opened. The sudden release of toxic gases proved fatal, resulting in the tragic loss of four precious lives.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the exact cause of the gas leakage and to ascertain if any safety protocols were overlooked or neglected. Ensuring the safety of industrial workers and preventing such accidents from occurring in the future will be a top priority for the authorities.

This heartrending incident has cast a somber shadow over the Kim GIDC and the entire Surat district. The tragic loss of these four workers serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of strict adherence to safety guidelines in industrial settings to prevent such devastating incidents.
