Surat hosts Cyclothon event to encourage use of bicycles
The goal of the cyclothon competition is to raise awareness about healthy living and encourage residents to use bicycles as a mode of transportation to help reduce the negative effects of rising pollution in Surat.
Surat (Gujarat) : Surat, the diamond and textile capital of India, will host the first-ever ‘Cyclothon’ competition on January 8.
Surat Smart City Development Limited (SSCDL), a Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) SPV responsible for the implementation of Smart City projects in Surat, has organised the Cyclothon competition in three categories: 5 km, 20 km, and 40 km.
The goal of the cyclothon competition is to raise awareness about healthy living and encourage residents to use bicycles as a mode of transportation to help reduce the negative effects of rising pollution in Surat.
To ensure the success of this competition, the municipality has begun meeting with groups of cyclists as well as various city organisations to garner support for the huge success of the Cyclothon event in Surat.
Surat’s first of its kind experience
Plans are being developed to promote cycling in the city and to engage the city in the fight against pollution. As the city’s pollution level rises, more and more people are being encouraged to ride bicycles. On January 8, the Cyclothon competition will begin at around 6.30 a.m. from CB Patel Health Club on VIP Road.
