“It’s a dream come true!” exclaims Mohammed, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “We never imagined our project, born from simple curiosity about planetary patterns, would take us this far.” Their journey began with the school’s science fair, where their meticulous model impressed all. “Their dedication and passion were evident from the start,” beams their mentor, physics teacher Rupa Jaychandran Kutty. “They spent countless hours researching, refining, and perfecting their model, showcasing a true scientific spirit.”

The duo’s creation delves into the fascinating relationship between a planet’s orbital path and its period, seen from Earth’s perspective. Their model, falling under the “Maths for Us” subsection, establishes a clear mathematical connection between these celestial movements, leaving judges and fellow young scientists spellbound.

“It’s a testament to their hard work and the nurturing environment fostered by Sir JJ English School,” says Dr. Himanshu S. Parekh, the school principal, bursting with pride. “Their achievement reflects the importance of curiosity and a questioning mind in the pursuit of scientific understanding.”

The journey to the national stage wasn’t easy. Their model braved four grueling elimination rounds to reach the state level competition in February 2023. From the 19 projects submitted by GCERT, theirs stood out, earning them a coveted spot among the 12 chosen by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for the RBVP.

The entire school community is abuzz with excitement, celebrating the young scientists’ success. “It’s an inspiration to all our students,” declares Dr. Homi Dudhwala, President of the Surat Parsi Panchayat. “Their achievement reflects the values we hold dear – a commitment to excellence, a spirit of inquiry, and a dedication to pushing the boundaries of knowledge.”

As Mohammed and Shaikh prepare to showcase their project on a national platform, their eyes gleam with ambition. “This is just the beginning,” says Shaikh confidently. “We want to inspire others to explore the beauty and wonder of science, to see the magic it holds.”
