Surat : The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is set to make history by being the first Indian municipal corporation to have its municipal workshop certified to the internationally recognised quality standard ISO 9001:2000.
This outstanding accomplishment, driven by the vibrant and ambitious Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal, will cement Surat’s dedication to excellent quality management practises. The SMC has done excellent work, and the quality management policy is currently awaiting approval from the competent authorities, which will mark a watershed moment in the history of the city’s governing structure.

The Surat Municipal Corporation has always been at the forefront of innovation and progress. Recognizing the importance of standardized processes and systems, the Municipal Workshop initiated its journey towards ISO certification. To obtain ISO 9001:2000 certification, a robust quality management policy is of utmost importance. The SMC’s quality management policy for the municipal workshop has been crafted with meticulous attention to detail, emphasizing transparency, efficiency, and the highest standards of service delivery, maintenance of vehicles, repairs, procurement, refueling and overhauling of vheicles, machinery and equipment as per OEM and industry guidelines.

The mission is to carry out Repairing, Maintenance. Re-conditioning and periodic overhauling of surat municipal corporation’s own vehicles in most effective, economic, efficient and environment friendly way and carry out procurement and distribution of automobile parts and accessories, carry out general services of vehicles including re-fuelling of petrol/diesel in SMC owned vehicle in one of the best possible way.

With the quality management policy now in place, it is subject to approval by the competent authority of the SMC, which is likely to be approved by May 31.
