Surat : In a keenly contested election for the vice-presidency of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), Nikhil Madrasi, a journalist-turned-entrepreneur, emerged victorious, defeating Manish Kapadiya, the foreign affairs convener of the Gujarat BJP and a prominent Patidar leader from Surat. The election, marked by fervor and anticipation, unfolded on Sunday at the Sarsana International Exhibition and Convention Centre (SIECC), culminating in a resounding victory for Madrasi.

Madrasi secured the position with a notable margin of 414 votes, garnering 2,443 votes in contrast to Kapadiya’s 2,029 votes. Despite strong support from the Patidar lobby in Surat, including influential figures like Dinesh Navadiya and Mathur Savani, Kapadiya fell short against Madrasi, whose extensive tenure within the SGCCI resonated strongly with the voting members.

Expressing gratitude for his win, Nikhil Madrasi, the newly elected vice-president of SGCCI, stated, “I am thankful to all the members of the SGCCI who voted for me. I have been working with SGCCI for a very long time, and the members have given me the opportunity to perform.” Emphasizing the historical significance of SGCCI as one of the oldest chambers in Gujarat and India, Madrasi pledged to redouble his efforts for the advancement of trade and industry in Surat and southern Gujarat.

Madrasi’s victory signifies a pivotal moment in the SGCCI’s leadership landscape, marking the ascendancy of a seasoned professional with a deep-rooted understanding of the chamber’s intricacies. With his experience spanning various roles within SGCCI, Madrasi’s presidency promises continuity and a steadfast commitment to the chamber’s objectives.

The election outcome highlights the dynamism and democratic ethos inherent within SGCCI, where merit and experience are pivotal factors in determining leadership. Madrasi’s win not only reflects his personal achievements but also heralds a new chapter in the SGCCI’s journey towards fostering growth and prosperity in Surat and its surrounding regions.

“As the vice-president-elect, Nikhil Madrasi assumes a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of SGCCI, steering its initiatives to catalyze economic development, foster innovation, and advocate for the interests of its members” said Mayur Golwala, leader of the powerloom sector in Surat. “ His victory resonates as a testament to the faith entrusted in him by the SGCCI fraternity, setting the stage for collaborative endeavors aimed at driving progress and prosperity in southern Gujarat’s business landscape.”
