Surat : An adult porcupine, locally known as a “Sahudi,” was hurt near the Kurukshetra Crematorium in Jahangirpura, and the volunteers from Prakruti Projectors rushed to its help. The porcupine, which was discovered beside the road at night, was apparently hit by a fast car and was in critical condition.
The dedicated volunteers of Prakruti Projectors promptly swung into action, rescuing the injured porcupine from near the crematorium. The creature, in an apparent state of distress, bore the brunt of its encounter with a speeding vehicle that had crossed its path during the dark hours.
Following the rescue, the injured porcupine was safely transported to the Rescue animal rescue centre in Vesu, operated by Nature Club Surat (NCS). At the rescue centre, a veterinary doctor closely examined the porcupine’s condition, revealing an injury on one of its legs as a result of the unfortunate accident.
The skilled medical team at NCS immediately initiated the necessary treatment for the injured porcupine, locally referred to as “Sahudi” in Gujarati. The treatment regimen aims to nurse the creature back to health, ensuring its well-being and eventual return to its natural habitat.
Porcupines, which are primarily nocturnal creatures, prefer the solace of forests and grasslands. Roosting in natural caves or excavated pits due to their limited climbing and jumping abilities, these creatures spend a significant portion of their lives on or under the ground. Known for their distinctive large spines, when a porcupine feels threatened, it raises its spines as a warning signal or as a defense mechanism against potential threats.
