Surat : A devastating fire erupted at the election office of BJP MLA Vinu Moradiya in the Katargam constituency of Surat on Saturday morning, attributed to a short circuit. Although no casualties were reported, the blaze wreaked havoc, engulfing the entire office complex, including valuable documents, electronics, and furniture.

The fire, believed to have originated from a short circuit, engulfed the Lok Sabha election office situated on the first floor of the Kankawati complex in the Singanpor area. Panic ensued as bystanders witnessed the flames, prompting a rapid response from the fire department. Three fire tenders were dispatched to the scene, eventually bringing the inferno under control. Despite their efforts, significant damage had already been inflicted on the premises, with furniture, computers, air conditioning units, and crucial documents consumed by the flames.

Situated opposite the Singanpore Health Centre, the office of the MLA serves as a crucial hub for political activities in the region. Eyewitnesses recounted the chaotic scene as the fire raged, drawing a large crowd of onlookers.

Authorities from the fire and emergency department revealed that the office, rented by BJP MLA Vinu Moradiya for election-related activities, belonged to Chiman Patel and Paresh Patel. The incident was reportedly triggered by an explosion in the air conditioning unit, igniting the blaze shortly before 9:30 am on Saturday.

The repercussions of the fire extend beyond the immediate damage to property. With crucial documents lost and infrastructure destroyed, the incident poses significant challenges for the BJP MLA’s election campaign in the Katargam constituency. As political activities intensify ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the setback incurred by the fire underscores the vulnerability of campaign infrastructure to unforeseen disasters.

Local authorities have initiated investigations into the cause of the fire, focusing primarily on the electrical malfunction that sparked the conflagration. Additionally, efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage and determine the necessary steps for restoration.

In the aftermath of the incident, the BJP MLA and his team face the daunting task of rebuilding their election infrastructure while simultaneously navigating the complexities of campaigning amidst adversity.
