Surat : FDCA Unveils Adulterated Ghee Scandal at Babubhai 24 Carats Mithai Magic

Surat : The renowned Babubhai 24 Carats Mithai Magic, a celebrated sweet shop nestled in the heart of Surat, faces allegations of utilizing adulterated ghee in their confectionaries.

The Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), spearheaded by Commissioner Dr. HG Koshia, recently conducted a raid at Babubhai 24 Carats Mithai Magic located in Khatodra, Surat. This operation resulted in the collection of a suspected sample of ‘VRC Taste Best Desi Ghee,’ raising concerns about its authenticity and purity.

The owner of Babubhai 24 Carats, Brij Kishore Mithaiwala, was questioned by FDCA officials regarding the source of the alleged adulterated ghee. Subsequently, Mithaiwala disclosed that the ghee supplier in question was identified as M/s Milko Foods, situated in Rampura, Surat.

Babubhai 24 Carats Mithai Magic gained widespread attention over the past few years, primarily due to their signature gold leaf sweets, particularly favored during festive occasions. Notably, Babubhai also introduced the extravagant gold Gharis, a delicacy synonymous with the Chandni Padva festival.

In response to the revelations, the FDCA team extended its investigation to the ghee wholesaler’s premises in Rampura. However, upon arrival, the shop was found closed. Undeterred, the team of food safety officers vigilantly stationed themselves outside the shop throughout the night. Come morning, the officers secured a sample of ‘Taste Best Desi Ghee’ from the establishment owned by Kapil Pravinchandra Membar. Simultaneously, they seized an approximate 314 kilograms of suspected adulterated ghee, estimated at a value of Rs 1.83 lakh.

Dr. Koshia, Commissioner of FDCA, emphasized the agency’s commitment to a comprehensive investigation, awaiting the test report from the public health laboratory. Dr. Koshia warned of stringent legal actions poised against both the ghee wholesaler and Babubhai 24 Carats, contingent on the laboratory’s findings.

“The impending test report from the laboratory will determine the course of action. The FDCA remains resolute in ensuring the integrity and safety of food products, underscoring the criticality of fair practices in food production and distribution” said Dr. Koshia in an official communiqué.
