Surat/Mumbai — In a shocking and well-orchestrated crime straight out of a thriller movie, Rohit Jain, a cloth broker from Surat’s Vesu area, was kidnapped from a Mumbai hotel, with the abductors later demanding a ransom of ₹50 lakh and snatching gold jewelry worth ₹2.1 lakh from his wife. The incident has sent shockwaves through both Surat and Mumbai, with chilling CCTV footage now surfacing to expose the operation.

According to police sources, Rohit Jain had travelled to Mumbai on July 19 for business and checked into Sona Hotel. When his wife tried calling him the next morning, both his and her phones were found switched off, raising immediate concern. Sensing danger, she contacted Mehul, a close friend of Rohit who lives in Mumbai, and asked him to investigate.

Upon checking with the hotel, it was found that Rohit had checked out at 3:45 am on July 20. However, when hotel CCTV footage was reviewed, it showed four to five men forcibly taking Rohit out and putting him into a car, hinting at a planned kidnapping. These men were also seen moving inside the hotel, further confirming their involvement.

“This was no random crime. The kidnappers knew exactly what they were doing,” said a senior police official involved in the case.

But the story took an even darker turn.

On the same day of the abduction, two men, identified as Rahul and Chirag, reached Rohit’s home in Vesu, Surat. Shockingly, they made Rohit speak to his wife on the phone under duress. Fearfully, Rohit told her to arrange ₹50 lakh urgently from friends and family and hand it over.

Adding pressure, the two men then demanded and took away jewelry from Rohit’s wife worth ₹2.1 lakh, including a 20-gram gold ring, a bracelet, a chain, and gold earrings. A video has now surfaced showing Rohit’s wife counting and handing over the ornaments to the accused.

Following the incident, Rohit’s wife filed a formal complaint at Vesu Police Station. DCP Vijay Gurjar confirmed the abduction and said, “This appears to be a case of organized debt recovery gone rogue. We have detained two suspects and are interrogating them. Efforts are on to nab the rest of the gang.”

Fortunately, once the gang learned that police had been alerted, Rohit was released. But the psychological trauma, financial loss, and security concerns for businesspersons have left both Surat and Mumbai residents shaken.

“This isn’t just a kidnapping—it’s a wake-up call. Criminals are getting more organized and daring,” said a senior police officer in Surat.
