Surat | Gujarat — Surat’s cricketing fraternity is celebrating a historic milestone after talented all-rounder Gauri Goyal earned selection in India’s Women’s Under-19 cricket team for the upcoming Sri Lanka Women’s U-19 tour of India, becoming the first cricketer from the Surat District Cricket Association (SDCA) to represent the country at the international level.
In a landmark achievement for Gujarat cricket, Gauri has been named in both the T20 and One-Day International squads, making her the first woman cricketer from Surat and Gujarat to secure a place in India’s U-19 teams in both formats simultaneously.
The announcement has sparked excitement across cricket circles in South Gujarat, with coaches, administrators and players hailing it as a defining moment for women’s cricket in the region.
“Gauri Goyal has become the first cricketer from the Surat District Cricket Association to earn a place in an Indian international team. This is a proud moment not only for her family but for the entire cricket fraternity of Surat and South Gujarat,” said SDCA Cricket Secretary Dr. Naimesh Desai.
A left-arm spinner and dependable middle-order batter, Gauri has steadily risen through the ranks with consistent performances in domestic cricket. Her recent participation in the prestigious 26-day Women’s Under-19 Elite Camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence further strengthened her credentials and showcased her ability to compete among the country’s most promising young cricketers.
What makes her achievement even more remarkable is her performance across age groups this season. Gauri represented her state in Under-19, Under-23 and Senior Women’s BCCI tournaments, playing an impressive 28 matches in a single season. Her all-round contributions and ability to deliver under pressure reportedly played a crucial role in securing her national call-up.
Cricket officials believe Gauri’s success will inspire a new generation of girls to pursue the sport professionally.
“Her journey reflects the growing strength of women’s cricket in Gujarat. Talented players like Gauri are giving Surat cricket a new identity on the national stage,” a senior cricket official said.
With India scheduled to play three T20s and three One-Day matches against Sri Lanka’s Under-19 team, all eyes will now be on the young Surat star as she prepares to wear the national colours and begin her international journey.
For Surat and Gujarat cricket, Gauri Goyal’s selection marks not just a personal triumph, but a historic breakthrough that could pave the way for many more young women cricketers in the years ahead.
